When This 4th Grader Sang A 50-Year-Old Song At Graduation Nobody Could Hold Their Tears Back

If you’re like me, you think it is a beautiful thing when young people appreciate something of quality. Like good music for instance. Compared to most of the stuff on the radio waves these days, the popular music of the 1960s and 1970s was far superior. With bands and singing groups like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and The Carpenters, the ears of the people living in those decades were spoiled.

When a child shows love for great music, it is hard to discount it. And fourth-grader Adam Kornowski has an ear for good songs. He goes to school at Lakeside Elementary School in Minnesota and seized an opportunity recently to show the world just how much he loves music. Because he was filmed singing a popular song by John Lennon called “Imagine,” the video was posted online and quickly went viral.

Now 10-year-old Kornowski has become famous overnight for singing this groundbreaking song. And that’s why thousands of viewers watching Kornowski sing have tears forming in their eyes. It is a beautiful moment watching the child appreciate and perform good music.

Because Adam loves good music, he knows it when he hears it. That’s why he wanted to sing “Imagine” in front of the audience at school. And a little boy with great taste in music, the audience fell in love with him immediately. The way he sings is not only super sweet, but it is also a good rendition of the classic song.

“There wasn’t a parent in the room with a dry eye by the end. He got a standing ovation, and the applause lasted forever!” his proud mom Michelle wrote on Facebook. “A woman stopped me to tell me that she would buy it on iTunes if I put it out there!! I love his bow at the end…so polite!”

After the boy sang the song, his mother posted about it on Facebook.

“There is so much strife in the world, and he wanted to do a song that had peace and hope in it, hoping that people would listen to that,” she said. “He listens to the music he plays, and I think the John Lennon song resonated with him and he just wanted to send a message as a 10-year-old kid.”

Adam’s dad taught him to play piano and sing whenever they had a few minutes together. And those impromptu lessons are really paying off.

His dad said, “When he’s at my house, whenever he walks by the room where the piano is, he’ll sit down and play something. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes. He’ll sit and watch YouTube videos on playing the piano and play something from that. It’s just a great source of joy for him.”

Although Adam made a name for himself singing “Imagine,” his family is waiting to see what happens.

“We’ll have to see what comes from this. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that’s just been a lot of fun. From reading the comments (on the Facebook post), I think I know what happened. People saw a young boy singing a song like that and where we are in the state of the world and I think people are looking for beauty. This was the right song at the right time.”
